We create the future, individually and together

In a post-pandemic world that can seem continually on fire, we are all being asked to reinvent something — and maybe a lot of things — in our lives. That requires not just the work of creating it, but mindset shifts, commitments, the dreaming up of a new reality.

For many of us, there's just so much coming at us right now. So much to absorb, to do. So much that really requires us to show up in new and different ways.

This time is a powerful reminder of how intertwined and interdependent we humans really are -- and how much we need each other.

Resting, resettling and reaching out is what makes it possible to do all the important things, and, like many of us, I need a little more of all of the above lately.

Personally, I've been focused on

  • Seeking out and listening to experiences different from my own

  • Having honest conversations with people I know about world events and the ways in which we are all impacted

  • Reading more for my own growth and understanding

  • Focusing on and taking action on my personal vision and vision for the world I want to live in

We all have ways of moving what we care about forward. I encourage you to find yours, and stretch yourself in the process.

Rather than watching endless social and news streams (generally not a recipe for well being), you might choose to focus on a bigger picture: your vision for the future.

A clear vision is a powerful motivator for change

What do you want from the rest of your life? What would you be disappointed you did NOT do? Where do you envision yourself in 10 years?

What do you want for others? What would you like to see happen in your lifetime? How might you contribute to that?

Having a clear vision of how (and who) you want to be is a powerful motivator. A vision helps us work towards our goals, take action and make change -- individually and collectively. It might be just what you need stay focused in positive ways.

Here are 5 questions to explore or journal to go deeper.

  • What do you desire or yearn for in your life and in your community?

  • How do you want to feel? How do you want others to feel?

  • What do you really, really want to be different in your life? In your community?

  • What would have happened in 3 years time if you have created a life that feels spectacular and you're feeling truly happy in yourself? What would have happened in the world?

  • What's your dream for this lifetime? Imagine you're 90 years old and looking back; what did you do that made you proud?

Don't limit yourself or your ideas by what you fully know how to create at this moment. Let's think in possibilities, not probabilities. When we do that, we have stronger outcomes. We get closer. We may find an even bigger vision along the way.

As a coach, I believe in possibility. Yours, mine, ours.

I know that we adapt. We will change. We will create. We will reinvent.

We will do it together. And we will continue to grow and evolve.
