As a writer, I’ve always loved the idea that we are the authors and editors of our lives and our careers.
But as empowering as it can be to know that the decisions in plot and character development all come down to us, it can also be a challenging idea to swallow.
That’s because it means we’re not sitting on the sidelines anymore. It compels us to stand for what we want.
It is, though, more basic than revolutionary. It doesn’t need to be hard.
Living and working in a way that fulfills and challenges you comes down to three basic things: choices, needs and strengths.
All of them start with the story you are telling yourself. And that’s where that author/editor thing comes in.
When you don’t believe in possibility, it’s hard to visualize doing something different. When you do, your options start to expand. Continue Reading

When I work with clients, I base a lot of our work around a foundation of what I call “dream it, design it, live it”.
It doesn’t matter whether the focus is a complete lifestyle overhaul, a deep dive into what’s next at work, or sustainable strategies to reach that goal— this underlying philosophy gets results.
At the heart of how we do each of these three things is story. That’s because there are few things more foundational to our experience of life than the stories we tell ourselves and others.
Our stories influence what we see, how we show up, where we show up, what actions we take — even what we believe to be possible.
